Ben van plan om S2 en S3 bij Play te bestellen maar nu lees ik op diverse forums dat dvdboxen vaak beschadigd aankomen omdat ze niet goed verpakt zijn, dat is wel weer een minpunt

en ik bestel regelmatig bij play, altijd goed en onbeschadigd aangekomen. Mocht ie toch beschadigd raken, dan mail je ze gewoon en sturen ze een nieuwe op

Ik heb zelf ook Seizoen 1 ooit besteld bij Play en geen problemen gehad hoor. Ze versturen het gewoon in zo'n bubble envelop.
Mocht de box echter kapot zijn gegaan tijdens het versturen dan kun je gewoon een mailtje sturen en dan kan je ook nog een replacement krijgen.
Maar dit is mij nog nooit overkomen.

The Peabody Award-winning drama series THE WIRE kicks off its 13-episode fourth season SUNDAY, SEPT. 10 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO.

Season four of THE WIRE centers on the lives of four young boys as they traverse adolescence in the drug-saturated streets of West Baltimore. The new episodes of the series examine their world through the theme of education, asking viewers to consider the world that awaits these boys, and to consider further the American commitment to equal opportunity.

"The American obsession with police procedural and crime drama usually only allows for villains - in large part, black and brown - who exist as foils, to be pursued and destroyed by cop heroes," says series creator and executive producer David Simon. "We're addressing ourselves to where the 'villains' actually come from, and whether we have any right to regard them as somehow less human than the rest of us."

This season of THE WIRE is based in large part on the experiences of writer and producer Edward Burns, who taught social studies for seven years in the Baltimore school system after serving 20 years as a city police detective.

"If anything," says Burns, "our depiction of an inner-city school system, its problems and its unwillingness to fully address those problems, is a very generous one."

The stories of Michael, Namond, DuQuan and Randy take place against the rise of a new narcotics empire in West Baltimore - replacing the fallen Barksdale organization - and the resulting struggle by Baltimore detectives to mount an investigation against this new power.

Returning cast regulars from the first three seasons of THE WIRE include Dominic West, Sonja Sohn, Lance Reddick, Wendell Pierce, Robert Wisdom, Deirdre Lovejoy, Clarke Peters, Domenick Lombardozzi, Seth Gilliam, Jim True-Frost, Aidan Gillen, Jamie Hector, Chad L. New cast regulars this season include Reg E. Als ik dit zo lees, weet ik niet precies wat ik me moet voorstellen bij S4 en of dit seizoen wel zo goed wordt als de voorgaande seizoenen.

Toevallig dat dit topic net naar boven komt drijven, ben deze week begonnen aan seizoen 3, beetje sloom gaat het nog maar dat was bij de 2 voorgaande seizoenen ook die ik tegen het einde fantastisch vond.

Maarja ieder moet voor zich natuurlijk beslissen hoeveel geld hij/zij wil besteden. Ik heb het er in ieders geval wel voor over, weet nog goed dat ik seizoen 1 ook voor 40 euro heb gekocht, en seizoen 2 heb ik voor 24 pond gekocht.

En gelijk heb je eigenlijk !! Maar ik moet toegeven dat ik zo in de ban ben van The Sopranos (al enkele jaren) en nu ook The Wire, dat ik, als eenmaal een release datum bekend is, niet het geduld kan opbregen om nog langer te wachten. Of zal er ook zoiets bestaan als een mannelijke versie van "koopziekte"?

En gelijk heb je eigenlijk !! David Simon, the creator of the acclaimed but ratings-challenged HBO urban drama, faces the Sept. 10 launch of his show's fourth season knowing it's likely the last. The Wire's shot at a fifth season, says HBO CEO Chris Albrecht, depends on the reaction to the one coming up.

If history repeats, critics will adore the show — and viewers will avoid it. One reason they might, Simon told the critics at their semiannual gathering, is that the cast is largely African-American. "There is a certain portion of the audience that will change the channel. Not in any grandly venal, racist way, but there are a lot of people that are going to look and see that many black faces looking back at them, and they're going to say 'This is not my story.' "

But it is everyone's story, he says, because it is the story of the failure of our cities and institutions, which is why the show reinvents itself each year to tackle a different theme. The first season was police and the drug wars; the second, the death of the working class; the third, politics. This year's theme is the schools, and if the show gets another year, it will move on to the media.

"In our own heads, we have a five-season arc. ... They all connect in a way that explains why we are what we are and why we can't get out of our own boxes." The goal is to pose a question he's unable to answer: "Why is it the richest, most powerful country in the world can't solve its fundamental problems when it comes to places like Baltimore? And there are a lot of places like Baltimore."

Come September, The Wire will occupy the only Sunday slot available for HBO original series. For the first time, this fall the pay channel is moving the debut night of its big theatrical films from Saturday to Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT. HBO, which has been running series from 9 p.m. to 11 Sundays, will now only have the 10 p.m. slot to program.

The move, says HBO CEO Chris Albrecht, "seemed like a fun idea," but it isn't a permanent one. When Rome returns for its second — and last — season in January, it will air at 9.

And that January run of Rome means the return/conclusion of The Sopranos has been pushed back to March, at the earliest.

To make matters more complicated, HBO is trying a new time experiment with HBO On Demand. The Wire and Russell Simmons' Def Comedy Jam will debut there on Sept. 4 — six days before their arrival on the main HBO channel.

Future projects for the network include Life Support, a movie starring Queen Latifah as an AIDS activist, a vampire series from Six Feet Under's Alan Ball, and miniseries about John Adams and the Pacific front in World War II.

As for The Sopranos, Albrecht says the network was happy with this season's ratings and quality, but not with the show's lack of Emmy love (and nominations) this year. "Regarding the Emmys, I don't know what to say. I don't know what to say."

Ik hoop dat er een 5e seizoen komt, alhoewel ik mijn twijfels heb over het verhaal van het 4e seizoen, wat ik tot nu toe erover gelezen heb klinkt het alsof de serie een beetje een andere richting inslaat. Ben in ieder geval erg benieuwd.

Wat ik wel raar vind is dat de ratings zo slecht zijn in de VS.
Dit is toch gewoon een top serie, die erg realistisch en ook kritisch is.
Blijkbaar wil de gemiddelde Amerikaan niet teveel nadenken tijdens het kijken van een tv serie.

Overigens denk ik niet dat deze serie ooit het grote publiek zal bereiken dus ik vind het wel een beetje gezeur dat ze een 5e seizoen laten afhangen van de ratings. Er is volgens mij toch een harde kern die de serie volgt en ik denk niet dat er in het 4e seizoen veel meer mensen bij zullen komen. Als ze dus een 4e seizoen maken waarom zouden ze dan het 5e seizoen niet maken vanwege ratings die toch al niet zo hoog waren bij de voorgaande seizoen.

Simmons en Burns zelf vermoeden dat het groot aantal Afro-Amerikaanse acteurs een mogelijke reden kan zijn voor de lage viewratings.Verder ben ik het geheel met je eens dat de Amerikaan niet echt houdt van realistisch maatschappij-kritische TV.Maar toch lijkt mij de kans vrij groot dat er wél een nieuw 5de seizoen bijkomt, aangezien paradepaardjes The Sopranos en Deadwood zullen verdwijnen. HBO zal proberen zoveel mogelijk leden te behouden, dat kan door die harde kern bij HBO betrokken te houden .Een tweede optie is natuurlijk het creëren van een geheel nieuwe originele serie, maar dat zie ik nog niet zo snel succesvol gebeuren.

Misschien overheen gelezen maar weet er iemand wanneer S3 uitkomt in nederland? Ik heb S1 en S2 nu gezien en zou graag beginnen met S3 maar als deze alleen via UK te verkrijgen is dan moet ik dat maar doen. Veels te goeie serie om zo lang te moeten wachten op een nieuw seizoen.

Ik kan op DVDhome.nl niks vinden over de release van S3....

Wanneer seizoen 3 in Nederland uitkomt is nog niet bekend, UK versie komt 18 september uit, en er van uitgaande dat die gewoon NL subs heeft, heb ik die alvast daar maar besteld.

Tuurlijk niet Heb van seizoen 2 ook de UK versie omdat die eerder uit kwam. Pech voor Warner NL, moeten ze de boxen maar tegelijk uitbrengen.
