De precieze specs zijn nog onbekend. Maar ik ben al erg blij dat er iets van Audrey Hepburn op Blu-ray uit gaat komen.

Hartstikke mooi nieuws! Geweldig leuke film, en als de kwaliteit net zo hoog is als veel andere oudere titels, dan wordt dit voor mij een zekere aankoop.
Alleen: hoe kom jij aan de datum van 23 augustus?

Dat is hier te lezen. Ik zie nu pas dat het op Amazon nog niet vermeld is.

In dit topic op Blu-ray.com is trouwens te lezen dat het om een nieuwe restauratie gaat.

This September, Paramount Pictures will release the 50th Anniversary Edition of Blake Edwards' Breakfast at Tiffany's on Blu-ray. In her most iconic film performance, Audrey Hepburn (Charade) stars as Holly Golightly, a spirited New York socialite who befriends an impressionable young writer (George Peppard, TV's "The A-Team").

The Blu-ray presents the film in a brand new digital restoration for 1080p with both 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks and a restored monaural Dolby Digital track. The disc also includes over 90 minutes of bonus features, such as:

- A Golightly Gathering featurette

Toch samen met Breakfast de betere films van Hepburn (voor mij dan).

Blij dat Breakfast op blu-ray uitkomt, maar kwamen er maar eens films uit met ned. ondert. die hier nog nooit zijn uitgebracht op dvd of blu-ray b.v. Nun's story of Wait until dark.
Toch samen met Breakfast de betere films van Hepburn (voor mij dan).

Van Wait until dark is een vrij goeie en betaalbare Britse DVD te krijgen. Ik verwacht niet dat daar op korte termijn een BD van gaat uitkomen, en ik vraag me af of de film wel significant genoeg is om hem dan te gaan vervangen.

The Nun's story heb ik nog niet gezien. De Britse DVD heeft het verkeerde ratio, maar ik zie nu net dat er een Amerikaanse release bestaat die wel het goeie ratio heeft. Misschien dat ik die nog eens ga bestellen, want ook hier vraag ik me af of ze deze film ooit op BD zullen uitbrengen.

Het belangrijke nieuws:

Bildqualität

Technik: Videocodec MPEG4-AVC, Ansichtsverhältnis 1,78:1, Auflösung 1080p Paramount hat das Bild von 1,85:1 zu 1,78:1 geöffnet und gibt ein wenig zusätzliches Filmmaterial preis – der Bildeindruck wird dadurch nicht gestört. Beim Anschauen fallen einem sofort die kräftigen Farben und das sehr ruhige Bild auf: Über die gesamte Spielzeit sind fast gar keine Bildbeschädigungen zu entdecken, was auf einen sehr guten Zustand des Masters schließen lässt.

Filmkorn ist zwar stets sichtbar, bleibt aber immer dezent und verleiht Frühstück bei Tiffany eine organische Film-Optik. Sein Alter merkt man dem Bild bei dem eher durchschnittlichen Detailgrad an. Dieser resultiert vor allem daraus, dass Regisseur Blake Edwards dem Film bewusst einen „weichen“ Look verpasst hat. Paramount scheint zusätzlich mit ein wenig DNR nachgeholfen zu haben, der Effekt ist allerdings nur in Nahaufnahmen minimal sichtbar. Insgesamt verdient das Bild dieses 50 Jahre alten Bildes aber eine sehr gute Note, da es dem Ursprungsmaterial exzellent entspricht und Paramounts Restauration Früchte getragen hat: Besser sah Frühstück bei Tiffany vermutlich 1961 nicht einmal im Kino aus.

"Presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1, this 1080p transfer is beautiful. If you have the Centennial DVD that Paramount released back in 2009, expect that to gather dust, because this one is head and should above it. Colors are bold and vibrant. Blacks are inky. Audrey’s little black dress has never looked better than it does here. Detail is excellent as well. I could see the individual furs of Cat, and spot the different textures of Hepburn’s many beautiful outfits. If I had one small complaint, it would be that on occasion, the faces look a bit waxy. Other than that, this is a stellar effort".

Volgens de releasekalender op deze site komt de Blu-ray op 16 november 2011 in Nederland uit. Ik ga ervan uit dat deze versie identiek is aan de US- en UK-uitgave.

Om nu te beweren dat er op de hele film ruisonderdrukking en daarna verscherping is toegepast gaat mij veel te ver.

Paramount's 1080p encode for the film is littered with issues that didn't have to be.

the story of this release is DNR. It's pretty easy to spot here. Grain itself only froze a few times early on,
but the tell is the ridiculous smoothness of the picture at times,
like the moments where fingernails don't even seem to exist, replaced by fleshy, borderline meathook appendages

Sadly, grain is washed away and DNR looks like the culprit - there is no texture. I really think it suits the film with an okay appearance

Dat je wat beter moet lezen en zeker beter quoten

Hoe jij het quote lijkt dat gedeelte van de 2e zin direct op dat DNR gedeelte te slaan, maar dat slaat natuurlijk op het hele voorafgaande en er volgt nog wat in die zin...

Tja, dat ziet er idd nogal onnatuurlijk warm uit allemaal. Weinig ''skin structure'' te herkennen helaas.
