Tomb Raider is het verhaal van de jonge, resolute Lara Croft en haar weg tot een wereldwijde heldin. Oscarwinnares Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) speelt de hoofdrol in de film, geregisseerd door Roar Uthaug (The Wave) en geproduceerd door Oscarwinnaar Graham King (The Departed). In de film spelen ook Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu en Kristin Scott Thomas mee. Het script werd geschreven door Geneva Robertson-Dworet en Alastair Siddons, naar het verhaal van Evan Daugherty en Robertson-Dworet.

Synopsis
Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander), de eigenzinnige en vrijgevochten dochter van een vermiste avonturier, is erop gebrand de mysterieuze dood van haar vader op te lossen. Gewapend met haar scherpe geest, blinde vertrouwen en koppige aard moet de dappere Lara tot het uiterste gaan tijdens een levensgevaarlijke reis naar onbekende plekken, en wordt ze uiteindelijk een echte Tomb Raider.
